Music that feels connected to the celebration

I am based in Christchurch, and Punjabi and Bollywood music are at the centre of my work. I DJ weddings, receptions, birthdays, engagements, private events and selected venue nights across Canterbury, with South Island travel available by arrangement.

What matters to me is how the music fits the people in front of me. At a family event, the room might include children, parents, grandparents, cousins, friends and guests from different backgrounds. A set needs enough familiarity to bring people together and enough energy to keep moving forward.

I use the music plan we agree before the event, then adjust to the crowd. Some nights move naturally from Punjabi classics into Bollywood and Bhangra. Others need English commercial or club tracks later. The event decides the balance.

Planning before performance

A strong event starts before the speakers are turned on. I ask about the venue, guest numbers, event timing, age range and music preferences. For weddings, I also need the run sheet, entrance order, first-dance track and any songs connected with family moments.

Must-play and do-not-play lists are welcome. They tell me what matters to you while leaving enough room to read the floor. If guests make requests on the night, I consider them within the direction we have already agreed.

Respecting mixed-age family events

A packed floor does not have to come at the expense of the event's cultural feel. Familiar Punjabi and Bollywood songs can give older relatives a way into the celebration. Bhangra and current tracks can lift the energy. Commercial music can be blended when it feels right for the guests.

The result should sound like one event, not several playlists competing with each other.

Professional setup and clear communication

DJ performance can be supported with professional sound, event lighting and microphones according to the venue and event requirements. Setup access, power, venue restrictions and event timing are discussed early so the practical side of the night is clear.

I am straightforward about availability and what is suitable for the event. Every quote is personalised because the date, location, duration, venue, guest numbers, sound, lighting and travel can all change what is required.

Christchurch and Canterbury are the main service areas, including Rolleston, Lincoln, Rangiora and Ashburton where appropriate. Weddings and private events elsewhere in the South Island can be considered by arrangement.
